With versatile mastery of guitar and mandocello, Stanley Greenthal combines haunting melodies with poetry to create interior landscapes in the listener that evoke personal experience. Stanley writes his songs from a place of conviction. When he speaks about the earth, his power comes from having lived close to the earth; when he explores the meaning of home, his insight has been gained through the years of building a homestead and then leaving it; when he writes about the emotion of love, his stories come from his own discovery of its paradox and deeper meaning in a temporal world. The album has three spirited instrumentals— a traditional Macedonian tune arranged by Stanley, a piece inspired by Bulgarian folk dance rhythms, and an original, uplifting march that closes the album.

Other talented Northwest musicians contribute fiddle, alto flute, whistles, piano, synthesizer, gaida (Bulgarian bagpipe), dumbek and tupan (percussion), and Celtic harp.
